SFENDONI (ΣΦΕΝΔΟΝΗ)
-Ionian Cruises
Built in 1962 (age 64). Registered in Corfu. Current line: Corfu-Paxoi-Antipaxoi
The small passenger ship SFENDONI was built in 1962 in the United Kingdom, and she was originally a fast attack craft commissioned for the West German Navy under the name PFEIL P6193. She also had one sister vessel, namely the STRAHL P6194. Both ships were transferred to the Hellenic Navy in 1967, with the PFEIL P6193 being renamed AEOLOS, while the STRAHL P1694 was renamed ASTRAPI. Both ships continued to operate in their capacity as fast attack craft until they were decommissioned in 1979. They were subsequently laid-up in Salamina until they were acquired by the Greek company Petrakis Lines (based in Corfu) in 1992. They were renamed ANTIGONI and CHRISTINA, respectively, and they were converted into passenger ships that would be dedicated to performing daily summer cruises on the Ionian Sea. They began service on the Parga-Corfu-Paxoi-Antipaxoi line. In 2003 the company was rebranded as Ionian Cruises. From 2007 she and the CHRISTINA have been deployed on the Corfu-Paxoi-Antipaxoi line. In 2010 she was renamed SFENDONI. She has also occasionally performed cruises from Corfu to Parga, Syvota and Sarandë in Albania.
