RODON (ΡΟΔΟΝ)
-Sky Marine Ferries
Built in 1992 (age 33). Registered in St John's. Current line: Kos-Bodrum
The high speed catamaran RODON was built in 1992 in Sweden, as the ANTILLES EXPRESS for the Guadeloupean company L'Express Des Îles. She was ordered in order to serve the main islands of the French overseas region of Guadeloupe as well as connecting it with other islands of the Caribbean Sea. To that end, she operated on the Pointe-à-Pitre-Marie Galante-Roseau-Castries-Saint Pierre-Fort-de-France line, thus linking Guadeloupe with Dominica, St Lucia and Martinique. In 1999 she was sold to the Turkish company Akgünler Denizcilík and she was renamed AKGÜNLER 1. She was deployed on the Kyrenia-Mersin line, thus connecting Cyprus with Turkey. In 2007 she was deployed on the Ammochostos-Latakia line, thus connecting Cyprus with Syria on the Levantine Sea. In 2011 she was inserted on the Kyrenia-Taşucu line. In 2019 she was sold to the Greek company Dodecanese Flying Dolphins and she was renamed RODON. She was deployed on the Rhodes-Fethiye line line, thus connecting the largest island of the Dodecanese with Turkey. In 2020 she was transferred to the company Symi Links and she was supposed to operate on the Rhodes-Symi line as the AGIA SOPHIA, but this did not materialise and the ship remained in Rhodes. In 2022 her company was rebranded as Sky Marine Ferries and she was deployed on the Kos-Bodrum line. In 2024 she returned to the Rhodes-Fethiye line. Since her arrival in Greece, the RODON has been reflagged several times, switching from Togo in 2019 to Greece in 2020, followed by Bolivia in 2022 and Antigua and Barbuda in 2023.
