The small ferry PATMOS STAR was built in 1991 in Greece, as the ELVIRA for the Greek company Kriaras Shipping. She began her career on the Piraeus-Northern Aegina-Poros line, serving the port of Agia Marina in Aegina. In 1995 she underwent a conversion in Perama, during which she acquired sponsons. In 2005 she was sold to Patmos Star Ferries, which is a company based in Patmos under the Gryllis family. The ship was renamed PATMOS STAR and she began service on the Patmos-Leipsoi-Leros line on the Dodecanese. Serving the three islands throughout the whole year, the ship has been praised for being vital to their regular connection and for always providing reliable services.
