IONION PELAGOS (ΙΟΝΙΟΝ ΠΕΛΑΓΟΣ)
-Ionion P Lines
Built in 1990 (age 34). Registered in Piraeus. Current line: Kefalonia-Ithaca-Astakos
The conventional double-ended ferry IONION PELAGOS was built in 1990 in Greece, originally as a landing craft for the Greek company Ionion P Lines. She was deployed on the Zakynthos-Kefalonia line on the Ionian Sea, where she went on to operate for 15 years. In 2000 she underwent a small conversion in Salamina, during which her stern was upgraded. However, she underwent an even more prominent conversion in 2006. This occurred in Salamina, and saw the ship being lengthened and converted into a conventional ferry, while also acquiring a stern ramp, thus making her a double-ended ferry. She was was subsequently deployed on the Kefalonia-Ithaca-Astakos line, where she has since been playing a vital role in the connection of Ithaca with mainland Greece and Kefalonia. In 2011 her service was extended to the Kefalonia-Ithaca-Astakos-Lefkada line, which she performed until 2017, having since been operating solely on the Kefalonia-Ithaca-Astakos line. She operates under the Taxiarchis joint venture on the Ionian Sea, which includes her company, Ionian Sea Ferries and Lixouri NE.
