ILION (ΙΛΙΟΝ)
-Greco Lines
Built in 1995 (age 30). Registered in Piraeus. Current line: None (laid-up in Chalkida)
The small catamaran ferry ILION was built in 1995 in Greece, for the Greek company Leontis Shipping. She was originally a passenger-only vessel, and she was performing one-day cruises on the Rhodes-Symi line on the Dodecanese. She stayed there until 2007, and in 2008 her owner attempted to deploy her on the Saronic Gulf. This proved to be unsuccessful, and the ship remained laid-up in Salamina. She was eventually deployed for a few days on the Piraeus-Aegina-Agistri -Methana line in 2009, but her service ended prematurely due to her being unable to match the competition on the area. In 2010 she was sold to the Greek company Emo Lines and she was deployed on the Igoumenitsa-Corfu-Paxoi line on the Ionian Sea, after having been modified in order to become a small ferry during a conversion in Salamina. In 2011 she was sold to the Greek company Triton Shipping, and she was due to operate on the Alexandroupolis-Samothraki line, but her owner was instead involved in a cigarette smuggling scheme which saw the ship heading to Libya. She was seized by the Greek Coast Guard in 2012 and she was arrested in Kefalonia due to these issues. She stayed there until 2018, when she was sold to the Greek company Greco Lines. She headed to Chalkida, where she underwent a refit, but she never entered service. She has since remained laid-up in Chalkida, and her future remains uncertain.
