ANEMOS (ΑΝΕΜΟΣ)

-Aegean Sea Lines

Built in 1980 (age 45). Registered in Piraeus. Current line: None (under refit in Perama)

The cruiseferry ANEMOS was built in 1980 in Finland, as the ROSELLA for the Finnish company SF Line, which was at the time one of the three Finnish companies that operated under the Viking Line brandname. She was ordered alongside one sister ship, namely the TURELLA (now known as the RIGEL III of Ventouris Ferries), which had been built the previous year. The ROSELLA was deployed on the Kapellskär-Mariehamn-Naantali line on the Baltic Sea. In 1981 she was inserted on the Stockholm-Mariehamn-Turku line, where she went on to experience much success and acclaim, despite some occasional mechanical troubles as well as a collision with her fleetmate, namely the DIANA II, near the island of Sottunga in 1987. She was repaired in Turku and she returned to service. In 1988, following an aborted attempt to have the ship sold to the Swedish giants Stena Line, she instead remained with Viking Line and she returned to the Kapellskär-Mariehamn-Naantali line, where she remained until 1993. In 1994 she returned to the Stockholm-Mariehamn-Turku line. In 1995 SF Line changed its company structure and it was fully renamed Viking Line. From that year to 1997 she was once again on the Kapellskär-Mariehamn-Naantali line. In 1998 she was deployed on the Kapellskär-Mariehamn-Turku line, where she stayed until 2002. From 1997 to 2002, during the winter season, she would perform 22-hour-long cruises on the Stockholm-Mariehamn line under the marketing name DANCING QUEEN. In 2003 she moved to the Tallinn-Helsinki line, where she remained until 2008, when she was introduced on the Kapellskär-Mariehamn line. In 2023, after 43 years with Viking Line on the Baltic Sea (having been the company's longest-serving ship in its entire history), the ROSELLA departed the fleet as she was sold to the newly-established Greek company Aegean Sea Lines. The latter had been founded as the successor to Aegean Speed Lines, which had ceased operations in 2022. Becoming the first conventional ferry of the Evgenidis Group, she was renamed ANEMOS and she underwent an extensive conversion in Perama, during which her indoor areas were fully refurbished. She began service during the summer of 2023, being introduced on the Piraeus-Serifos-Sifnos-Milos-Ios-Santorini line on the Cyclades. In 2024 she was deployed on the Piraeus-Kythnos-Serifos-Sifnos-Kimolos-Milos line on the Western Cyclades.
