The high speed catamaran ALEXANDER was built in 1986 in Japan. She began service there, as the MARINE SHUTTLE for the Japanese company Marine Shuttle Company, serving the Tokyo-Yokohama line. She stayed there until 2000, when she was sold to the Greek company Cycladic Cruises. She was renamed ALEXANDER and she underwent a short refit in Perama. She then began performing daily cruises on the Cyclades based in Naxos, being deployed on the Naxos-Paros-Delos-Mykonos-Irakleia-Koufonisi-Ios-Santorini line, where she has remained for the past 26 years.
