The conventional ferry ACHILLEAS was built in 1987 in Japan, as the AWAJI for the Japanese company Koshien Kosoku Ferry. She was deployed on the Nishinomiya-Tsuna line, where she stayed for 11 years. In 1998 she was sold to the South Korean company Namhae Express Company and she was renamed NAMHAE GOSOK CAR FERRY. She underwent an extensive conversion that lasted for two years, and she eventually began service in 2000 on the Yeosu-Jeju line on the Jeju Strait. In 2004 she was sold to the Greek company Skyros Shipping Company, which was looking to find a ship to replace its older ferry, namely the LYKOMIDES, which was the main ship serving the island of Skyros under the Skyros Line brandname since 1989. The NAMHAE GOSOK CAR FERRY was renamed ACHILLEAS and she underwent a major conversion in Drapetsona, during which her bow was remodeled, her indoor areas were renovated and her aft section saw the addition of outdoor sun deck areas. She began service on the Kymi-Skyros line in 2005. In 2008 she began operating on the Kymi-Skyros-Alonissos-Skopelos line on the Sporades during the summer, while she would continue to operate on the Kymi-Skyros line for the remainder of the year. In 2016 she served the Volos-Skiathos-Skopelos-Alonissos-Kymi-Skyros line, before reverting to the the Kymi-Skyros-Alonissos-Skopelos line in 2017. Since 2023 she has restricted her service to the Kymi-Skyros line.
